Wordsearch Site

Wordsearch Site (screenshot)

A neat daily Wordseach Puzzle site with an editor.

After a week of intense research for September in Crosswords I had some appreciation for wordsearch puzzles. Less complex than crosswords, this genre has in its simplicity an almost universal appeal. This admiration grew so much that I made a wordsearch puzzles site.

My challenge would not be making the site, but making it without wasting time. Remember: september was supposed to be a Crosswords month. That said, I chose to use AI to write the site's code.

Initially, I used chatGPT, which was quite useful, but its limitations made me look for better alternatives. I moved to vscode Copilot - if they haven't rebranded it yet again. It was the right decision.

Besides its impressive speed, sometimes the styles got all messed up. Obvious design features - well, obvious to me - were rewritten with results being sometimes quite disappointing. After all my manual work, I consider myself the main CSS coder on this site. It's like the AI was the fastest junior programmer ever. Quite fast, but a Junior still.

The site got made in less than two days - a little over 24 hours from prompt to go live.

The final site has a home with fake ads - old ads and my own stuff plugged in; daily games; a puzzle editor, which I used to create all the games published on the site; and a player that keeps track of time.

The design was inspired, in part, by the PiauĂ wordsearch puzzle page, from Grupo Folha.
