This site we're in.

In late 2023 I realized I was making lots of stuff that nobody saw - me included. As soon as I finished or abandoned a project it seemed to me it was destined to be forgotten, lost. It created a feeling of unimportance - if this is a word. Finishing something didn't feel rewarding and the energy I'd put into building something felt like a waste.

This was not great.

I came across Luke Smith - the linguist that made linux videos showcasing his workflow and how productive and intuitive linux could be.

One of Luke's videos was a call to action against the redditfication of the web. In Get a Website Now! Don't be a Web Peasant!, Luke urges his viewers to buy a domain and start a site. So I did it. Bought the domain brchad.com in January 2024 without a plan. It sit idle for about 2 months, then I would actually put it to use.

The earliest commit on the site's repository is dated April 2024, so it's fair to say this was when it got started.

Other influences for creating this site were Steal like an Artist and Show your work books by Austin Kleon.

Luke Smith is the main influence, no question about it.

I decided to separate my professional portfolio from my personal projects. So BRCHAD became the home of my personal projects and I hosted my professional portfolio somewhere else. This site became a way of recording my projects and talking about them. A big step in order to put myself out there.

Since I created this site and started logging my projects in, I feel more inspired and I haven't abandoned as much projects as before. :)

Made with HTML + JavaScript + CSS.

Since the site's inception I wanted to give it a blueprint vibe. I am happy with the site visuals and do not plan on changing it.

Just recently it occured to me I haven't documented this site... it took me almost a year and a half to write this post... better late than sorry.

April 2024

After creating this site I tweaked it a lot. I did not keep records of the progressive changes it suffered beyond commit messages. On the last big update, I made the site completely static, no more dynamic headers and footers. To achieve this I coded a static site generator with Claude Haiku 4.5 assistance. THe result is a lighter and more stable website.
